One of the most enjoyable ways to introduce friends and family to the world of contemporary board games is with Elizabeth Hargrave's critically acclaimed masterpiece Wingspan. Wingspan is an exciting nature-themed board game that won Game of the Year multiple times in 2019. Its expansion Wingspan: Asia has also just been released to great fanfare! The non-violent experience was designed by a dedicated bird watcher and is filled to the brim with Ana Mara Martnez and Natalia Rojas' artwork. Stonemaier Games provided the components, which include adorable little wooden eggs and practical trays to organize all of your pieces.
It might require some assistance to get beginners up to speed, but once you've finished your first playthrough, the game will still be on the table.
In Cascadia, players take a journey through the Pacific Northwest to compete in creating the most harmonious ecosystem. This tile-drafting game's gorgeous game art and natural themes are accessible to all players. You have to make choices about how to balance your ecosystem right from the first draft. To score the most points and receive bonuses at the end of the game, match the terrain and the wildlife.
Cascadia's appeal extends beyond its outstanding artwork and well-liked ecological theme. There are countless strategies. Cornering endgame bonuses, concentrating on area control, and building corridors are all possibilities. Additionally, the hexagonal grid and random board generation contribute to the replay value of the game.
In CATAN (formerly The Settlers of Catan), players fight to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. Roll dice each turn to determine what resources the island produces, and players build by spending resources (sheep, wheat, wood, brick, and ore) that are depicted by these resource cards. Each land type, with the exception of the unproductive desert, produces a specific resource. Players accumulate points by building settlements and cities, having the longest road and the largest army, and gathering certain development cards that simply award victory points. When a player has gathered 10 points (some of which may be held in secret), they announce their total and win. Will you rise to the top on the island of Catan?
This territory building game, similar to its predecessor Kingdomino, has players seeking new lands to expand their kingdoms. Players use tiles with two sections, similar to Dominoes, to connect to and further build their kingdoms, making sure that each section of their tiles matches with one that is already in play. Kingdomino Origins introduces new components, additional actions, and new ways to score points, such as the introduction of fire as a gameplay mechanic. The game ends when each player has completed a 5x5 grid (or fails to do so), and points are counted based on the number of connecting tiles and valuable crown symbols. Mutant monsters, giant robots, and strange aliens—every form of kaiju battling it out to become the one true King of Tokyo. Players take on the roles of these giant monsters and roll six dice with the following six symbols: 1, 2, or 3, Victory Points, Energy, Heal, and Attack. Over three successive throws, players choose whether to keep or discard each die in order to win Victory Points, gain energy, restore health, or attack other players. The fiercest kaiju will occupy Tokyo and earn extra Victory Points, but cannot heal and must face all other monsters by themselves! Will you claim your crown as the King of Tokyo?
Ticket to Ride: Europe - 15th Anniversary Edition
Like the original Ticket to Ride, this Europe offshoot (the same relatively simple game we’ve come to know and love) takes players from city-to-city across turn-of-the-century Europe. Collect and play various types of train cards in order to place pieces on the board and claim railway routes in Europe, slowly but surely connecting cities using ticket cards. Players earn points both from placing trains and completing tickets, but uncompleted tickets lose them points. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins!
This 15th Anniversary edition contains material from the Ticket to Ride: Europe base game as well as the Europa 1912 expansion, for a vast total of 108 destination ticket cards!
